City of Molalla: SMASHING the good old boy Sense of Entitlement

ENTITLEMENT:

Definition:

EntitlementEntitlement or a ‘Sense of Entitlement’ is an unrealistic, unmerited or inappropriate expectation of favorable living conditions and favorable treatment at the hands of others. – “Out of the Fog”

In a casual sense, the term “entitlement” refers to a notion or belief that one (or oneself) is deserving of some particular reward or benefit—if given without deeper legal or principled cause, the term is often given with pejorative connotation (e.g. a “sense of entitlement”).

In clinical psychology and psychiatry, an unrealistic, exaggerated, or rigidly held sense of entitlement may be considered a symptom of narcissistic personality disorder, seen in those who ‘because of early frustrations…arrogate to themselves the right to demand lifelong reimbursement from fate.”– Wikipedia (longer discussion follows post)

The “pejorative connotation”  and ‘narcissistic ‘of ‘sense of entitlement’ is certainly well represented in Molalla with the ongoing ‘it’s personal’ baloney coming out of the mouths of pathetic ‘mayor’ Clarke and soon to be laid off fake ‘planner’ Potter’s brother.

Another funny edition of the Molalla Pioneer yesterday featured a ‘personal’ boo hoo attack letter from the brother of  fake planner Potter.

The boo hoo ‘personal’ stuff about the family man and his coaching and his long ‘service’ to Molalla TOTALLY failed to address the primary reason Potter no longer will have a job: it’s the economy, stupid!

The good old Molalla boys always view city government – and public funds – with a sick sense of entitlement. It’s time for a reality check in feudal Molalla and it’s long overdue to kill the sense of entitlement.

We are subjected to failed and whiny ‘mayor’ Clarke – currently very much the odd man out – who is unable to write an op-ed if his life depended on it. It’s more likely that Clarke is too big a coward to put his ‘visions’ in print – because they are so bogus and self-serving they always blow up in his face (remember the urban reserve fiasco?). But you can rest assured that free speech hater Clarke will be the first to try to stab anyone in the back who has the gall to express an opinion in public – especially if they have ‘Molalla City Councilor’ posted next to their name.

In Clarke’s mind the world is supposed to revolve around his hicksville failed vision of blind allegiance to his good old boy entitlement cabal. Clarke thinks they are ENTITLED to using pubic resources for private profit and that they are ENTITLED to keep an incompetent on the public payroll wasting money on fake planning.

It is hilarious that by ‘stuffing ’em in’ during the ill-planned boom development, Clarke did the very thing he loathes – he created a more diverse city with people paying taxes who could give a crap about his good old boy sense of entitlement and growth at any cost agenda. Blind allegiance is OVER!

Now, we have the brother of outgoing fake planner Potter attacking the reduction in force because his brother Potter is such a nice guy that the world – or more specifically the City of Molalla – owes Potter a living. Only in kingdoms are people appointed for life.

Do these blindly loyal fools never read a newspaper? Don’t they get that the world isn’t ‘fair’ and that market forces are always circling these days, especially in government? A ‘guy’ with no education in planning should never have been ‘appointed’ or paid a king’s ransom over the years. I’d bet Potter’s wages for abject failure would likely add up to close to a million dollars in his 11 year reign of failure and incompetence. And his brother has the gall to attack those who pointed out that the PUBLIC WAS PAYING THROUGH THE NOSE to retain a ‘body’ that produced zero results – especially in times of no growth?

I hope anyone looking for places to re-locate takes a hard look at the history of Molalla’s so-called city government. Recently, the abuse continued as outgoing failed manager Atkins attempted to manipulate the discussion about County contract planning by wildly inflating the County’s hourly cost for as-needed planning; his obvious intent was to try to scare the Council into retaining incompetent Potter.

The trail of Molalla planning incurred legal bills and consultant costs and lack of results speak volumes. Potter’s one half-minute trip to the microphone to say “I couldn’t say” in two urban reserve hearings at County that took over 7 hours speaks volumes to the service the CITY DIDN’T GET from its fake ‘planning director’.

I’d love to get Potter on a hot seat and ask him basic questions about planning rules in the State of Oregon. I still laugh over the legal bill incurred last spring when public money had to be spent so a lawyer could try to ‘teach’ a ten-year in place ‘planner’ the difference between the primary planning paths in the State – simple information that any lay person could quickly find and absorb on-line in 5 minutes! That fact alone would prove that Potter was the wrong guy for the ‘title’ and that any ethical city in these economic times had no choice but to terminate in favor of on-demand County contract planning.

It’s typical of the good old boy cabal, led by pathetic Clarke, to over and over again spout lies and exaggerations about what was done and what needs to be done, with never a moment of acceptance about the facts that come flooding into to backwaterville from the outside world. That would be funny if it hadn’t already cost a fortune and made Molalla a laughing-stock loser of a city and one of the least valuable real estate investments around.

Low quality leadership via Clarke’s constant attempts to muffle debate has led to dead-end Molalla. The disgusting personal agendas of people like Clarke and Potter must be constantly unmasked to the public. We could care less about who served in what war or who coaches how many kids, who prays the most or how great a dad somebody is: the world today is a brutal column of success/failure calculations and the bottom line in shrinking municipal budgets rules the future. There is no future for untrained, ineffective, overpaid city workers in any city.

The entitlement shit has hit the fan, like it or not. Bad management, the end of catering to a sense of entitlement and horrible leadership has brought the long overdue layoff to Potter’s door. Don’t take it personal, Potter – the rest of America gets it and now it’s your day in the barrel. We certainly hope you socked away some of your ill-gotten,  over-inflated wages: all that money for nothing.

If the Potter clan wants to look for somebody to blame, look back 11 years to the day the city “leaders” were foolish enough to appoint someone who was totally unqualified to be a planner – apparently because the good old boy entitlement club believed if they had a clueless tool they could run their  corrupt ‘us first, us only’ agenda.

It would be a hoot to trot out the history of Potter’s appointment at a public forum: the public would be fascinated to find out if there was a competitive search for a planner 11 years ago or if the good old boys just dropped the crown on Potter’s head without an honest, published posting for a qualified, educated urban planner.

The story I heard was that the Molalla good old boys, needing ‘someone’ called a ‘planner’ so the city could ‘get grants’, figured that on disability from the police department Potter wasn’t ‘busy’ and a ‘planning director’ was born. Clarke should write an op-ed if that story isn’t true – we’d all love to hear the history of how ‘a guy’ with no education in urban planning ended up as plannin’ dictator of Molalla.

Sorry, good old boys: your entitlement agenda has been unmasked, the waste has been calculated and the public is outraged.

How soon is the next election for mayor?

Entitlement – Entitlement or a ‘Sense of Entitlement’ is an unrealistic, unmerited or inappropriate expectation of favorable living conditions and favorable treatment at the hands of others. – “Out of the Fog”

In a casual sense, the term “entitlement” refers to a notion or belief that one (or oneself) is deserving of some particular reward or benefit[1]—if given without deeper legal or principled cause, the term is often given with pejorative connotation (e.g. a “sense of entitlement”).

In clinical psychology and psychiatry, an unrealistic, exaggerated, or rigidly held sense of entitlement may be considered a symptom of narcissistic personality disorder, seen in those who ‘because of early frustrations…arrogate to themselves the right to demand lifelong reimbursement from fate’.[2]

Narcissists hold unreasonable expectations of particularly favorable treatment and automatic compliance because they consider themselves special. Failure to comply is considered an attack on their superiority, and the perpetrator is considered an “awkward” or “difficult” person. Defiance of their will is a narcissistic injury that can trigger narcissistic rage.[3]

‘John Murray (1964) in his now classic paper of narcissism and the ego ideal’ laid great ’emphasis on narcissistic entitlement and the manner in which this reflects infantile pregenital narcissistic fixations’ – something which led in turn to the ‘notion of the “narcissistic triad”. The narcissistic triad involves (1) narcissistic entitlement, (2) disappointment and disillusionment at the frustration of narcissistic needs, and (3) narcissistic rage’.[4]

Belief in the special, exceptional nature of ‘narcissistic entitlement dictates that the patient has a right to life on his own terms…Such narcissistic entitlement plays a central role in borderline pathology, since the borderline sees himself as a special person with special rights and entitlements, such that any frustration of these entitled desires tends to undermine and often shatter the patient’s self-esteem‘. -Wikipedia
